QotD: Game On

Comments

The first thing that pulled me into WoW was the detail of the landscapes in each virtual area. Azshara is my favorite spot in particular, because it always looks like fall, especially with the leaves floating down from the trees. Video games as art!
Do you ever find yourself wanting to take a character to 60 but you keep getting pulled to other characters. I've been playing the game since Jan '05 and I've never gotten a character to 60, but I've gotten 8-10 to late 30's early 40's.
I actually have the opposite problem - if I'm going to play, I tend to focus all my attention on one character and I don't like to pull away from their progress.

I've built up everything around my main character over the last year and a half - she's got the gold, the gear, the skills, and she's my only level 60. Meanwhile my alts are somewhat neglected. I have two mid-30's characters, and a level 56. I'm starting to get back into the 56, 'cause it would be sad to be so close to 60 and just... not... get... there. :) But likely even she won't get played much at 60, where she's a warlock, and my main is a priest. My guild needs priests more than 'locks most days.

I understand your point of view, though. My S.O. is exactly like you - he jumps around on characters a lot, and always has a new one in mind.
I have a lot of fun building up the characters to ~40, but I do think it would be nice to take one the rest of the way. In fact, that's what I need to decide before I jump back in the game: do I take my Bull to 60? Or do I start over again? Or maybe just wait for the expansion?

One thing I love about the game is that there's so many different things to do. For example, last year when I started my current character, I was outpacing my friends, so I had to find things to do to kill time. I started buying things cheap at the auction hall and then reselling them at higher prices. I'd made ~250gp by the time I was level 30.

Then I got bored and spent all of that to max out my enchanting skill. (I'm not sure what I got it to before my level got in the way. 250? 275?)

Fun times.
Taking your character to 60 means seeing areas of the game you probably haven't seen yet - still lots to explore between 40-60! But you don't get that gain-a-level-in-a-night kind of satisfaction. I like playing lower-level characters because I can feel like I've made a lot of progress in a few short hours, whereas the grind from 50-60 is time-consuming.

I can see why it's hard to choose one character, though - there's so much to do and see, combined with the time factor when you start getting up there in levels.
